Alex Ogg

Alex has dedicated over 30 years to marine innovation and Blue Economy leadership and growth. Purpose driven and passionate about sustainable food production and circularity, he currently holds roles of Director, Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC); Deputy Chair, Regional Development Australia and Inaugural Director of the Blue Assembly.Alex has been at the forefront of Australia's South Sea Pearling Industry, is former CEO of the WA Fishing Industry Council and a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Alex is also a Fellow of the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation and of MIT’s – Global IDEAS Asia Pacific.Alex’s comfort zone is connecting brilliant ideas with capable people, across research, industry and society; nurturing those relationships to create impact for better business and a better planet.


Mark Jones

Mark is a blue tech leader with over 20 years of experience in delivering smart solutions and services for the fisheries and waste sectors in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific.With a background in Commerce, Mark co-founded the Fisheries Management organisation, FishServe and founded its transformational business development subsidiary FINNZ, providing tech driven solutions to the seafood and waste sectors in New Zealand, Australia, US and the Middle East.Mark has built trusting relationships delivering environmental focussed solutions to diverse businesses. Comfortable working with skippers in the wheelhouse, operations managers on the production floor, executives in the boardroom and Ministers at the policy table, Mark drives commercialisation initiatives around seafood, turning waste into profit and all things Blue Economy.From his base in Wellington, New Zealand Mark’s passion is connecting emerging technologies with partners to solve environmental challenges and create positive impacts for the ocean and the planet.


Allen Haroutonian

Allen Haroutonian is an accomplished leader in innovation and investment programs, with a focus on the Blue Economy.Allen is also the co-founder of Climate-Tech startup Adept Aqua, commercialising award-winning particle physics technology.Since 2016, he has mentored technical experts and worked across various organisations and projects, including a lead role in a tuna sidestream valorisation initiative with the Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency and design of a decarbonisation roadmap for the Australian fishing fleet.With deep experience in commercialisation with Federal Government’s Accelerating Commercialisation program, Allen has also served as an advisor to the Fisheries Research & Development Corporation’s $200 million R&D Investment Strategy.His career spans roles in electronics assembly, business development at startups, driving the transition of an Australian Startup-to-Scaleup via North American expansion, and business development in Australia for prominent companies like IBM, Apple, and Dell.


Programs & Projects

PROGRAMME Spotlight 1: Pacific Island Tuna Venture Programme.

The Pacific Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) has engaged Blue-X to support pacific businesses by building ventures, connecting processors with technology, innovation, research and implementation partners to develop new tuna-based products from processing sidestreams (never waste).
PITVP's 100% Fish innovation network positions the Pacific region at the forefront of the global marine circular economy revolution, leveraging the lessons from the Iceland Ocean Cluster to transform what was once considered waste into the foundation for sustainable economic prosperity.


PROJECT Spotlight 2: Catch Prediction Modelling

Physical ocean changes linked to climate change have increased the variability in fish stock availability and distribution. Blue-X is working with research and modelling experts MEZO Research and Dragonfly Data Science to build a modelling and analytics platform that will provide fishers with predictive models that will optimise fishing locations creating economic and environmental benefits.
